Dr. Henry Borenson was awarded a patent for this instructional approach using game pieces, a laminated balance scale for the student, and a 3-dimensional stationary balance scale for the teacher. In three lessons students solve 4x + 3 = 3x + 9 and in six lessons they solve 2(2x + 1) = 3x + 12.
